COMMERCE — Jesse Drosche had 26 points and J.C. Morrow added 19 for Fairland as the Owls topped Commerce 60-42 in a Lucky 7 Conference boys’ basketball game here Friday night.

Commerce gained a split by claiming a 43-34 decision in the girls’ game.

"We started off pretty slow, but we were wanting to get the ball inside," Fairland coach Justin Goins said. "We didn’t shoot outside very much. We shot only 12 3s and made one (by Jon Henry)."

The Owls padded a 13-7 first-quarter lead into a 26-18 edge by intermission.

Fairland opened up some breathing room in the third period when it outscored the Tigers 16-9. An 18-15 edge in the fourth frame created the final margin.

The 26 points were a season-high for Drosche. He got 10 of that in the fourth quarter.

He was joined in double figures by J.C. Morrow, who had 19.

Kyler Ng and Luis Arizpe paced the Commerce attack with 17 and 11 points, respectively. Ng got most of his by draining four 3-point goals.

In the girls’ game, Commerce used a 14-5 burst in the first quarter to get the upper hand.

The Lady Tigers coasted into the half with a 25-15. FHS cut the deficit down to six heading into the fourth quarter, when Commerce held a 14-11 edge.

Courtney Watson had 14 points and Mandy Watson added 11 for CHS, 8-4 overall and 4-2 in the conference.

The Lady Owls received 13 points from Suezann Pascoe. Ashlee Davis added nine.

Fairland hosts Afton while Commerce travels to Bluejacket for conference games on Tuesday.
