COFFEYVILLE, Kan. - Allowing a goal in each half, Northeastern A&M's Golden Norsemen dropped a 2-0 decision in the soccer season opener Tuesday against Coffeyville Community College at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Coach John Parrigon's Golden Norsemen open the home portion of their inaugural season Friday by hosting Metropolitan Community College-Blue Ridge, Mo., at 4 p.m. on the NEO intramural field.

The Norsemen entertain Independence, Kan., Saturday at 5 p.m.

“I really think Coffeyville will be the second or third best team we'll face all season,” Parrigon said. “They were very well balanced with a late of speed and talent.

The Red Ravens grabbed a 1-0 lead with 9:21 left in the first half on a goal by sophomore midfielder Bronson Garcia of Derby, Kan. Rafael De Silva earned the assist.

“We were down late in the second half and I kind of tried to push it offensively,” Parrigon said. “Unfortunately, that weakened us defensively and they took advantage.”

Veteran forward Jeremiah West of Mulvane, Kan., benefited from NEO's defensive lapse to score a goal at 77:23. Wagner Marques recorded the assist for the Red Ravens.
