POTEAU - Allowing only 17 points in the second half, Northeastern A&M's Lady Norse rallied for a 56-44 victory Monday night over the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings in the Mick Thompson Fitness Center.

With the victory, coach Jim Rowland's Lady Norse are 1-0 in the Eastern Division of the Bi-State Athletic Conference and 16-4 on the season. The loss dropped the Lady Vikings to 0-1 in the Bi-State East and 10-12 for the year.

The Lady Norse return home Thursday for a 6 p.m. Bi-State East confrontation with Eastern Oklahoma State College in the NEO Fieldhouse. The Lady Mountaineers stand 11-9 on the season following a 76-69 loss to Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa last Thursday in Wilburton.

Behind a 10-point performance by Jolea Apon and five points by Veronica Hendrix, the Lady Viking built a 15-8 lead in the first 10 minutes of the opening half.

Six points each by Whitney Conerly and Bruna Duarte propelled the Lady Norse to a 20-17 margin with 6:18 until intermission.

Two field goals each by Krystal Tyree and Onika Anderson, along with a putback by Crystal Kirk, allowed Carl Albert to carry a slim 27-26 lead to the locker room at halftime.

During the second half, Carl Albert succumbed to NEO's full-court pressure as the Lady Vikings hit only 4 of 31 shots from the field for a mere 13 percent.

Freshman point guard Misty Haley scored all nine of her points in the final 20 minutes to ignite the Lady Norse offense. Conerly contributed 12 points as NEO pulled away in the final 10 minutes of the half.

Conerly scored 18 points to lead the Lady Norse in scoring while Duarte contributed 10 points.

The Lady Norse sank 22 of 54, including 4 of 14 from 3-point range, for 41 percent from the field and 8 of 13 for 62 percent at the free throw line.

Apon and Hendrix combined for 10 points each to pace the Lady Vikings in scoring.

Carl Albert managed only 14 of 61, including 4 of 8 from the 3-point area, for a meager 23 percent from the field. The Lady Vikings hit 12 of 18 (67 percent) from the free throw line.

Along with leading the Lady Norse in scoring, both Conerly and Duarte grabbed 12 rebounds apiece to give NEO a 44 to 40 edge on the boards. Anderson collected 7 rebounds to lead Carl Albert.

Lady Norse freshman Sequoria Grady recorded seven blocked shots, which was one short of tying the NEO school record of eight by Bernice Dorsey against Westark on Feb. 18, 1988.
