Balanced scoring and stingy defense carried the Northeastern A&M Lady Norse to an 87-40 victory over the Murray State College Lady Aggies Monday night in the Student Activities Center.

While extending their winning streak to six games, coach Jim Rowland's Lady Norse are 11-3 on the season and 3-1 against Bi-State West competition. The Lady Aggies slip to 2-12 on the season and 0-5 against the Bi-State East.

“I was very pleased with the way we played,” Rowland said. “We came out and played with a lot of intensity and rhythm which is what we've harped on since returning from the Christmas break.”

The Lady Norse continue play against the Bi-State West on Thursday with a 6 p.m. rematch at Seminole State College.

The Lady Norse defeated the Belles 83-69 on Nov. 19 in Miami.

Prior to tonight's game in Warner with Connors State, the Belles are 4-8 on the season and 1-3 against the Bi-State East.

Five points from Nolisha Markham and four points each by Misty Haley and Denise Rosario, along with baskets by Skye Rees, Autumn Thompson and Megan Fraley, helped catapult the Lady Norse to a 19-2 cushion with 11:49 left in the first half.

After five straight points by Murray State's Tristin Scott, the Lady Norse responded with four points by Markham and a 3-pointer by Haley, along with regular field goals by Fraley and Rosario, to construct a 30-7 margin with 6:19 before halftime.

Outscoring the Lady Aggies 17-8 over the final five minutes, the Lady Norse carried a 47-15 lead to the locker room at intermission.

Four points each by Rees and Haley, along with two free throws by Layla Ferreira and layups by Fraley, Rees and Thompson, fueled the Lady Norse outburst.

“We didn't shoot the ball very well from 3-point range,” Rowland said. “But we offset that inaccuracy by pounding the ball into the post and also scoring on layups.”

During the first 10 minutes of the second half, the Lady Norse continued to attack the offensive basket by outscoring the Aggies 25-8 to build a 72-23 advantage. The Lady Norse sank 12 of 14 free throw attempts during the run.

Former Miami Lady Wardog Chelsey Edmondson made her debut and sank two field goals and two free throws in the final nine minutes of the game.

Five Lady Norse reached double figures, led by Markham with 16 points. Rosario and Haley had 14 each. Followed by Rees with 12 and Fraley 10.

Shanna Richards led Murray State with nine points.

Rosario and Markham each grabbed nine rebounds as the Lady Norse held a 60-49 advantage on the boards. Kristy Hawkins pulled down nine rebounds to lead the Lady Aggies.
