Miami schedules drug testing

Drug testing for athletes in the Miami School District will be Aug. 5-6 at the high school library.

The schedule includes:

Tuesday, Aug. 5 - High school girls (softball, cross country, dance and cheer), 9 a.m. to noon; middle school girls (softball, dance and cheer), 1 to 4 p.m.

Wednesday, Aug. 6 - High school boys (football and cross country), 9 a.m. to noon; middle school boys (football), 1 to 4 p.m.

Athletes are reminded that they must have a physical before they can participate in pre-season practices.

The first day of practice for softball at MHS will be Aug. 4 at 10 a.m. at the indoor practice facility.

The first day of football practice will be Aug. 12.

Drug testing set at Commerce

All athletes in the Commerce Public School system must participate in drug testing sessions Monday, Aug. 4, at the Commerce High School.

The first session for all girls will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. The boys' session will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

An $11 fee will be charged for each test

Wyandotte drug tests set

WYANDOTTE - Drug testing for Wyandotte High School athletes and cheerleaders who will be in grades 9 through 12 will be Aug. 4 at the high school.

Testing for girls will be at 10 a.m. and boys at 11 a.m.

Cost is $10. Checks should be made out to the school.

Forms are available from coaches or in the high school office. They must be signed by a parent or guardian prior to testing.

MHS softball practice to begin

The first day of softball practice at Miami High School will be Aug. 4, according to coach Chris Mercer.

The first workout will be at 10 a.m. in the indoor practice facility. The evening practice, at 7 p.m., will concentrate on defense.

Players must have a physical before they can practice, Mercer said.

Middle school softball practice

Girls entering grades seventh and eighth are invited to participate in softball practice, according to coach Nick Maxson.

The first practice was Wednesday on the Miami High School Lady Wardog field.

Wyandotte pee wee practice

Players interested in participating in the Wyandotte pee wee/midget football league are invited to the first practice, Monday, Aig. 4, at 5 p.m. on the Wyandotte practice field.

Fairland softball workouts

Fairland high school softball coach Debbie Brixey will conduct workouts Monday, Aug. 4, on the Lady Owls diamond.

Members of the high school team will practice from 8 to 10 a.m. Middle school players will practice from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

All players must bring a physical and proof of insurance.

Quapaw football sign ups set

QUAPAW - Registration for Quapaw youth football will be today from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Little League field.

A birth certificate is required.

New jerseys are being ordered for this season, so players need to be sized during one of the three registration periods so that orders will arrive in time for the first game of the season.

Soccer registration continues

Miami Regional Soccer Association are encouraging any players that have not registered to do so before Thursday.

The cost is $35 for one player and $15 for each additional family member.

Age groups include: U5 (4 years old by July 31), U8, U10, U12, U14, U16 and U19. The player's age on Aug. 1 is the determining factor for the league assignment.

All new players must have a valid (state) birth certificate on file with Miami Soccer before registration is complete.

Registration forms can be obtained on-line from or from the Miami Department of Public Utilities at the Civic Center.

Players should not leave completed registration forms at the utility department.

Registration forms may be obtained, completed at home and mailed to Miami Soccer, PO Box 22, Miami, OK 74355.
