Unable to control the defensive boards during overtime, Northeastern A&M's Golden Norsemen suffered a 102-94 loss to Seminole State College Thursday night in the NEO Fieldhouse.

With the loss coach Dustin Grover's Golden Norse stand 9-8 on the season and 4-3 against teams from the Western Division of the Bi-State Athletic Conference. Dr. Tom Mills' Trojans are 14-3 on the year and 6-1 against Bi-State East opponents.

Weather permitting, the Norsemen travel to El Reno Saturday for a 7 p.m. confrontation with second-ranked Redlands Community College. The Cougars are a perfect 15-0 on the season.

If the game is postponed, it will be played Friday, Jan. 26.

“We got some good defensive stops in the overtime, but we couldn't get any defensive rebounds, Grover said. “They got some huge, huge offensive rebounds to give them second and even third looks at the basket.

“They got every loose ball and they out worked us, Grover said. “No matter how much I might complain about the officiating or the lack of foul calls, it came down to the fact that we didn't make the plays at the end of the game.

Seminole point guard Robert Jarvis scored 8 of his game-high 37 points during the five-minute overtime to power the Trojans past the Golden Norsemen.

Jarvis canned two 3-point field goals from well beyond the line to give Seminole a 93-87 lead with 3:28 left in the overtime period.

After a 3-pointer by NEO's Dominique Gaines cut the deficit to 93-90 at the 3:01 juncture, Seminole received four free throws by David Thomas and two by Adam Terneus to create a 96-90 cushion with 3:23 showing on the clock.

A putback by center Josh Smith and two free throws by Thomas sealed NEO's fate in the final two minutes.

“Because I didn't feel comfortable subbing, we basically played seven people most of the game which caused us to be tired during the overtime, Grover said. “I told our team after the game that we didn't loose the game in overtime, we lost it in regulation play.

“We didn't have the gas to finish the game off in regulation, Grover said. “Then Jarvis steps up and scores eight in overtime. He's a heck of a player.

During the entire second half, the lead changed hands 12 times as neither team could establish any offensive consistency.

With Seminole holding an 82-79 lead, Gaines sank a 3-pointer from deep along the baseline to create an 82-82 tie with two minutes left in regulation.

Jarvis countered with a long-range 3-pointer as the Trojans regained the lead with 1:41 left.

Freshman center Tulio Cobos scored inside the paint as NEO trailed 85-84 with 1:06 left in regulation.

After Smith scored on a lob-pass inside to give Seminole a 87-84 margin with 17 seconds left, Gaines sank a 3-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into overtime.

Cobos scored a career-high 31 points to lead the Norse in scoring while Gaines contributed 20, Tremaine Luellen 19 and John Boyd 12 points.

The Golden Norsemen sank 37 of 66 (57 percent) from the field, including 7 of 22 from 3-point range. NEO hit 13 of 23 for 57 percent from the free throw line.

Along with the 37-point performance by Jarvis, Seminole received 18 points each from Thomas and Smith.

The Trojans connected on 34 of 73 (47 percent) from the field, including 11 of 29 from the 3-point area, and 23 of 26 (89 percent) at the free throw line.
