After freshman Brittany Plaisted tossed a six-hit, 4-0 shutout in the first game, the Northeastern A&M Lady Norse scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to gain a 5-4 double-header sweep Tuesday evening over Eastern State College on the NEO diamond.

With the sweep, coach Eric Iverson's Lady Norse lead the Bi-State Athletic Conference with a 9-1 record and stand 14-7 on the year. Coach Andy Mace's Lady Mountaineers are 6-6 in the conference and 17-16 overall.

Weather permitting, the Lady Norse are scheduled to complete a six-game homestand on Thursday with a 2 p.m. conference double-header against Western State College of Altus. The Lady Pioneers are 7-3 in the Bi-State and 18-8 on the season.

Plaisted, a righthander from Grove, struck out two without allowing a walk in seven innings of work. She caused the Lady Mountaineers to strand five baserunners while improving her record to 6-2.

A walk by Cara Dearmore started a two-run second inning for the Lady Norse in the first game. Doubles by Ali Seibel, Kae Lani Bryan and Alyssa Poole gave NEO the 2-0 cushion.

Sophomore shortstop Shae Peterson, the nation's leading hitter with a .656 average, singled to start the bottom of the sixth inning for the Lady Norse.

Dearmore followed with an RBI double, scoring pinch runner Alyssa Warren. With two outs, Bryan singled to right, scoring Dearmore with the final run.

Bryan collected three of the eight Lady Norse hits while Poole added two doubles. Five of NEO's hits were doubles.

Eastern tagged Lady Norse starter Faith Richmond for two runs in the top of the first inning of the second game. Alex Vincent hit a 1-1 pitch over the left field fence to start the game. After Laney Anderson walked, Whitney Allen singled to right. Anderson scored on a fielder's choice by Darcy Casteel.

Consecutive walks to Erica Gantz, Ashlyn Aston and Vincent led to a run for the Lady Mountaineers in the top of the second inning. Gantz scored on a single to center by Anderson to create a 3-0 cushion.

With two outs in the bottom of the second, Bryan singled to left. After Kayla Odle was hit by a pitch, Poole doubled to left-center scoring Bryan for a 3-1 deficit.

Poole walked to start a three-run Lady Norse rally in the bottom of the fourth inning. Following a ground out by Kyrie Panter and a strikeout by Erin Eddy, Tia Reich singled to right scoring Poole. Peterson doubled to right-center, scoring Reich. Dearmore hit into a fielder's choice as Peterson scored to give NEO a 4-3 lead.

With one out in the top of the sixth inning Karly Bitters singled. Following a base hit by Vincent, Bitters scored on a fielder's choice by Anderson to create a 4-4 tie.

Singles by Poole and Panter, along with an RBI double by Eddy, gave the Lady Norse the eventual winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Poole and Reich had two hits each to lead the nine-hit Lady Norse offense.
