QUAPAW - Points from 10 different players helped Quapaw's girls chalk up a 49-36 victory over Riverton, Kan., here Thursday night.
“The best thing the last several games is that we've had a lot of people scoring,” Quapaw coach Rod Graves said. “We had six score against Commerce and 10 tonight. We had two with nine (points), eight, 12 - I like that.”
The Lady Wildcats, improving to 6-4, jumped out to a 12-7 lead in the opening quarter then took charge with an 18-7 burst in the second frame.
“Audra (Buttram) had a couple of 3s for us coming off the bench and that got us going,” Graves said.
Riverton cut into its deficit in the third quarter thanks to an 11-7 edge, but couldn't get any closer since each team scored 11 points over the final eight minutes.
Hope Sikes headed up the Quapaw scoring with 12 points. Buttram, who finished with three treys, and Amber Burkybile, added nine points each.
Rebekah Cupp scored seven points while Tiffany Woods, Megan Wells and Sami padgett hit six each for the Lady Rams.
Riverton rolled to a 65-21 victory in the boys' game.
The Rams led only 11-6 after the initial period, but broke the game open by outscoring the hosts 24-5 in the second frame.
“We still didn't come out with the intensity that we need to have,” Quapaw coach Brad Neal said.
Riverton broke the game open in the second half.
The Rams held an 18-10 advantage in the third quarter then tossed a 12-0 shutout in the fourth.
“We got manhandled inside,” Neal said.
Joey Bowling had six points and Drew Frisbie added five for the Wildcats.
Mason Hughes scored 14 points to lead Riverton. He was joined in double figures by Josh Davis with 12 points.
Quapaw travels to Fairland tonight for Lucky 7 Conference games, weather permitting.
