Welch and Fairland advanced both of its teams during the first day of action in the 65th annual Northeastern A&M High School Basketball Tournament.

Joey Powers had 18 points and Jacob Mount — back in the lineup after an illness — added 13 as the Wildcats ambushed Class 4A Roland 45-43 in the Boys’ Round Robin Bracket.

A 10-7 edge in the fourth quarter enabled the Welch boys to hold off the Rangers.

Next up for Welch is Tulsa LIncoln Christian, which held off Miami to claim a 44-40 decision.

The Lady Wildcats used a 25-14 edge in the final two quarters to post a 48-35 victory against White Oak in the Girls’ Blue bracket.

Welch faces Lucky 7 Conference rival Bluejacket today at 4:30 p.m. at the Civic Center.

Sierra Hankins had 15 points and Tylor Dodson added 12 for the Lady Wildcats.

Bluejacket snapped a 44-game losing streak when the Lady Chieftains bumped off the Grove JV 44-43 in overtime.

Fairland’s boys topped Tulsa Wright Christian 50-43 in the Boys’ Gold bracket.

Three players scored in double figures for the Owls. Jacob Bryant and Jesse Drosche had 11 each while J.C. Morrow finished with 10.

Fairland faces two-time defending champ Springfield (Mo.) Central today at 7:30 p.m. at the Civic Center. in the semifinals.

The Lady Owls jumped out to a 21-10 lead in the first quarter and routed Tyro (Kan.) Christian 54-37 in Girls’ Blue play.

Whitney Dushane hit 18 points and Suezann Pascoe added 13 for Fairland, which plays Foyil today at 4:30 p.m. at the Miami Activity Center.

Brandon Jones, Matt Wisdom and Brennon Fuser teamed up for 38 points as Afton’s boys chalked up a 50-47 decision against Foyil in the Boys’ Blue bracket.

Jones finished with a game-high 15 while Wisdom and Fuser added 13 and 10, respectively.

The Eagles meet Chetopa, Kan., today at 4:30 p.m. at the NEO Student Activity Center.

Wyandotte picked up a 56-45 victory over Tulsa Wright Christian in the Girls’ Gold division.

Kayla Oleman had 25 points and Jennifer McCloud added 13 for the Lady Bears, who were up 40-24 at the half.

Wyandotte and Tulsa Lincoln Christian play at 4:30 p.m. at the NEO Fieldhouse today.
