If Billy Sims has his way, the University of Oklahoma's Heisman Trio will take their show on the road again to help raise funds for the Miami flood relief effort.

“ I'm going to talk to these guys about taking this on the road around the state and raise some more money,” Sims said during Saturday night's Wardog Kick-Off Banquet at the First Christian Church.

The event, sponsored by the Miami Football Booster Club, drew more than 500.

“We will never forget about you guys, especially myself,” said Sims, who was joined by former Wardog star Steve Owens - the 1969 winner - and Jason White, the 2003 recipient.

“We do a lot of appearances together, but both of them came up and asked ‘what can we do to help Miami?'” Owens said. “I was coming up here and got to thinking. They are extremely busy, but they cared enough about this city and its people to take a Saturday and come up here and sign autographs and come to the banquet”

Owens, Sims and White helped raise $2,000 during a 2-hour autograph session at the Civic Center. All proceeds there went to the flood relief fund

Proceeds from the banquet and a silent auction went to the booster club, but a live auction at the end of the evening raised an additional $6,500 flood relief fund.

“It's great to be home and see such a great crowd,” Owens said. “I just wonder how many high school booster club banquets have had three Heisman winners?”

“This is unbelievable,” said Miami head coach Chris Risenhoover, who is a lifelong OU fan. “It's great that these guys took their time to come up here and help raise funds for the flood and also to help kick off our season.

“It was really special.”
