Miami”s Nick Henson, Keith Freeman, Joe Pilkinton and Brett Abell were named to the all-Verdigris Valley Conference baseball team.
Freeman and Pilkinton are seniors while Henson and Abell are juniors.
Henson was named as one of six infielders. He hit .477 with 39 RBIs, collecting 13 doubles and seven home runs. He had a .944 fielding average.
Freeman, who has signed to play baseball at Seminole State College, drove in 46 runs. His batting average was .415 and he had nine doubles and six home runs.
As the Wardogs” starting center fielder, Freeman had a .950 fielding average.
Pilkinton also was picked as an outfielder. He hit .350 with 27 RBIs and six doubles. His fielding percentage was .935.
The left-handed Abell was selected as one of three pitchers. He posted an 11-2 record with a 1.30 earned run average while striking out 130.
Offensively, Abell hit .441 with 37 RBIs.
Senior catcher Zack Turley and junior outfielder Michael Anderson were named to the second team.
Chris Mercer, who guided Miami to the Class 4A state tournament, and Brett Bouher, who led Grove to the conference title, were named co-coaches of the year.
Along with Abell, Grove”s Charles Petty and Richard Haag of Locust Grove were named to the all-conference team as pitchers.
Travis Briggs of Grove and Cody Asher of Pryor were named the first-team catchers.
Joining Henson on the infield were Joe Faircloth and Michael Stone of Pryor, Adam Carter and Billy Carter of Vinita and Ryan Dodson and Darius Hopper of Grove.
Freeman, Pilkinton, Eric Brixey and Corey Davenport of Grove and Jay”s Cayle Shambaugh were the outfielders.
Players named to the second team include Tyler Dodson and Jesse Hale of Grove, Jon Davenport and Boone Rogers of Jay, Ben Jacks, Tynan McKinney and Keith Mibb of Pryor.
