QUAPAW - Despite losing by 30 points, Quapaw coach Rod Graves still was pleased with how his Lady Wildcats played against No. 5 Oktaha.

“We actually played pretty well, Graves said Sunday evening of Oktaha's 61-31 victory in the finals of the 2A Area IV regional on the Lady Tigers' home floor.

“It was an 11-point game at the half, Graves said.

Oktaha jumped out to a 22-12 lead in the first quarter and continued to pull away.

“They are just so physical, Graves said.

The Lady Wildcats beat Oklahoma Union 39-33 on Thursday to set up the battle with Oktaha.

Next up - a 6:30 p.m. rematch on Thursday with Lucky 7 Conference rival Afton at Glenpool in an Area IV elimination game.

“You hate to get to the area tournament and have to play each other again, Graves said. Afton has won the previous two meetings.

“I would like to be playing anybody other than Afton, Graves said. “Oklahoma Union or Hulbert - either one. Only two teams are going to go to the state tournament and there's six left.

Hope Sikes scored 14 points for the Lady Wildcats against Oktaha. Paige Radford and Amber Burkybile chipped in with six and five, respectively.

Junior Britny Pittman paced the Lady Tigers with 19 points. Rachel Lawery added 10 points.

“They pressed the whole half, Graves said. “We gave them a run for the money, for the most part. We only scored two points in the fourth. The first three quarters were really pretty close.
