OKAY - Host Okay eliminated Welch 12-2 in a Class A baseball regional here Friday.
“They hit the ball well and we were running low on pitching,” Welch coach Bill Rogers said.
The Wildcats suffered a 15-5 loss to Okay in the first round Thursday then bounced back with a 4-2 decision against Cameron.
Okay jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the first inning of Thursday's game.
“We just couldn't get an out,” Rogers said. “It was 8-0 before we got an out. It was a good game after that.”
The Wildcats got all four of their runs against Cameron in the first three innings.
“The kid from Cameron was the best we've seen all year,” Rogers said. “He threw 86 or 87 (mph), he threw hard.”
Austin McKeon, who missed most of the season with an injury, limited Cameron to only two hits.
“He really threw well”î Rogers said.
