Mother Nature got the upper hand again.

The blast of wintry weather that snarled things on Friday also forced area school officials to scrap a full slate of sports events.

Miami's homecoming activities were pushed back a week after the Verdigris Valley Conference basketball games with Jay were postponed.

The games have been rescheduled for Feb. 1.

Coronation ceremonies for the homecoming queen and king now will be Saturday against Locust Grove, which had been postponed by November's snowstorm.

Due to a scheduling conflict, the games will be played at NEO's Student Activity Center. The boys will play first, followed by the girls.

Other events on Friday that were postponed include the Grove-Locust Grove, Wyandotte-Afton, Commerce-Welch and Quapaw-Fairland basketball games.

Saturday's casualties included a game at El Reno between Northeastern A&M's Golden Norsemen and second-ranked Redlands Community College.

The game will now be played Jan. 26.

Saturday night's school games postponed were Grove at Pryor, Commerce at Oklahoma Union and Quapaw at Afton.

Since another two waves of sleet and snow were to move through the area over the course of the weekend, middle school/junior high games on Monday are in jeopardy, as well as a full slate of events on Tuesday, including Northeastern A&M at Northern-Enid and Miami at Wagoner.

Also on Tuesday's schedule are Vinita at Grove, Bluejacket at Wyandotte, Commerce at Fairland and Welch at Quapaw.
