Sophomore shortstop Shae Peterson lined a 1-1 pitch over the left field fence for a three-run home run to carrry the Northeastern A&M Lady Norse to a double-header sweep Saturday afternoon over the Seminole State College Trojans on the NEO diamond.
Peterson's blast gave NEO a 5-3 victory in nine innings after the Lady Norse scored an 11-1 win in five innings of the first game.
While winning three out of four games with the Trojans, coaach Eric Iverson's Lady Norse have won the Bi-State Athletic Conference with a 21-5 record. The Lady Norse are 30-11 on the season.
The Lady Norse are scheduled to travel to Wilburton today for the regular-season finale starting at 2 p.m. against Eastern State College.
Parings for the Region II Tournament scheduled for May 2-4 at Don E. Porter Stadium in Oklahoma CIty will be determined Monday during the annual coaches' meeting in Seminole.
With the losses the Trojans finish the season with a 14-14 conference mark and a 43-31 overall record.
Peterson, of Broken Arrow, hit her team-leading seventh home run with no outs in the bottom of the ninth inning of a 2-2 tie. Tia Reich had reached on an error by Courtne St. Clair at second base to start the rally. After KaeLani Bryan reached on an error by Cassie Beech at third, Peterson delivered the telling blow.
Seminole scored their only ttwo runs in the top of the fourth inning off NEO starter Taylor Rolland. Beech singled and after a sacrifice bunt by St. Clair, scored on a single to right by Keanah Prestridge. Brooke Walters and Tiffany Talkington both singled as Prestridge scored for a 2-0 Trojan lead.
Two Seminole errors led to a run for the Lady Norse in the bottom of the fifth inning. Erin Eddy reached on a fielding error by Walters at first base.
Reich followed with a single to right and both runners advanced on an errant throw by Seminole pitcher Stephanie Glass. Eddy scored on a wild pitch by Glass.
With two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, consecutive singles by Reich and Bryan started NEO's game-tying rally. Peterson reached on a fielding error by Talkington at shortstop as Reich scored to send the game into extra innings.
Leslie Hobbs collected two singles to lead NEO's seven-hit attack.
Peterson hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning as the Lady Norse jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first game. Reich and Bryan both singled before Peterson's blast to center. Walks by Cara Dearmore and Ali SEibel along with a single by Hobbs accounted for the fourth run.
Seminole's only run came in the top of the second inning. With one out, Talkington doubled. Singles by Kayleigh Craig and Stephanie Glass scored Talkington.
Walks by Eddy and Peterson along with singles by Reich, Dearmore, Seibel and a double by Hobbs highlighted a five-run second inning for the Lady Norse to produce a 9-1 cushion.
A double by Peterson and singles by Seibel and Alyssa Poole ignied a two-run fourth inning for the Lady Norse.
With a double and homer, Peterson led the 11-hit Lady Norse offense. Reich, Seibel and Hobbs added two hits each.
