Sophomore right-hander Candice Handley tossed a no-hitter in the second game Monday, to lead the 15th ranked Northeastern A&M Lady Norse to a 10-0 and 17-1 sweep over Fort Scott (Kan.) Community College on the NEO diamond.

Coach Eric Iverson's Lady Norse travel to Wilburton Saturday and Sunday to play in the Eastern State College Spring Tournament.

The Lady Norse begin pool play on Saturday at 10 a.m. against Southwestern Iowa. After facing Paris, Texas, at 11:45 a.m., the Lady Norse face Western State College at 3:30 p.m. to conclude pool play.

Handley, of Broken Arrow, faced 21 batters in five innings without allowing a base hit. She struck out six and walked one to improve to 2-0 on the young season.

The lone run of the entire double-header by the Lady Greyhounds came in the top of the fourth inning.

Tyler Murphy reached on a two-base throwing error by Handley. After Kristi Williams grounded out moving Murphy to third. Lisa Pearse grounded out to second as Murphy scored.

Freshman shortstop Shae Peterson led off the bottom of the second inning with her third home run of the season.

Singles by Emily Harp and Maria Audette preceded a fielder's choice by Maria Bernal that scored Harp. Erin Eddy followed with a three-run homer to create a 5-0 Lady Norse lead.

The marathon second inning continued after Handley reached on an error. Catcher Shareena Pulse followed with a two-run home run for a 7-0 NEO lead.

Sending 13 batters to the plate in the bottom of the third inning, the Lady Norse erupted for nine runs. A three-run homer by Becca Carden and a three-run double by pinch hitter Kara White accounted for NEO's runs.

Pinch hitter Jodi Turtle doubled and scored on a pinch-hit RBI double by Andy Bernal for the final Lady Norse run in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Eight of the 12 Lady Norse hits went for extra bases.

Against Fort Scott in the first game, freshman Faith Raymond and Emily Harp combined to limit the Lady Greyhounds to singles by Megan Troyer in the third inning and Williams in the fourth. Raymond struck out six and walked one in four innings to earn the win. Harp retired the side in the fifth inning.

A double by Tia Reich and singles by Pulse and Peterson gave NEO a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

Maria Bernal doubled and scored after Eddy reached on a error in the bottom of the second inning for a 2-0 NEO lead.

Consecutive doubles by Carden, Maria Bernal and Kayleigh Masterson along with a solo home run by Pulse ignited an eight-run third inning for the Lady Norse.

A home run and two singles by Pulse along with two doubles by Maria Bernal led the 10-hit Lady Norse offense.
