The son of a former world heavyweight champ, the brother of a fighter who will be in the main event and a newcomer with a name better known in another sport will highlight the undercard for Saturday night’s boxing show at the Buffalo Run Casino.
4 Chazz Witherspoon, son of two-time champion Tim Witherspoon, puts his 24-1 record on the line in a 10-round heavyweight fight against Travis Fulton of Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Fulton is 14-22, but all of his wins have come by knockout. The younger Witherspoon, trained and managed by his father, has 16 career KOs.
4 Unbeaten Anthony Dirrell of Flint, Mich. (15-0 with 12 knockouts) meets Oklahoma City’s Terrence Jones (11-12, six KOs) in a four-round super middleweight fight.
Dirrell’s brother Andre battles Derrick Findley of Gary, Ind., in a 10-round super middleweight fight that will lead off the “ShoBox: The New Generation” telecast.
4 Isaiah Thomas of Detroit is off to a 2-0 start as a professional, with both wins coming by knockout. He’ll face winless Sam Norwood of Oklahoma City (0-2).
Thomas, a 20-year-old southpaw light heavyweight, is a two-time Junior Olympic champ and won the 2005 Cadet World Championships.
The “other” Isaiah Thomas was a point guard who led the “Bad Boys” Detroit Pistons to back-to-back NBA titles in 1988-89 and 1989-90. He also was a member of Indiana’s 1981 unbeaten national championship team.
Witherspoon isn’t the only one on the card with famous lineage
Ronald Hearns, son of boxing legend Tommy “Hitman” Hearns, will fight in a co-feature that pits two undefeated lightweights.
Ronald Hearns is 21-0 with 17 knockouts while Yorgey also stands 21-0 with nine KOs.
The card starts at 8 p.m. and Showtime will go on the air at 9 p.m.
Tickets are available at the Buffalo Run Casino box office.
