An 18-9 edge during the third quarter helped Tulsa Hale shake Miami and turn a close game into a 70-49 victory by the Lady Rangers here Friday afternoon.
The loss left the Lady Wardogs winless in two Girls’ Gold bracket games at the Northeastern A&M High School Basketball Tournament.
They wrapped up play Saturday afternoon against Wagoner.
MHS gets back into Verdigris Valley Conference play Tuesday night, hosting Pryor.
A 13-4 run by Miami over the final 3:06 of the second quarter helped it prune a 28-10 deficit down to nine points (32-23) by intermission.
Alyssa Johnson and Kelsey Neal had a bucket and two free throws each to key the run, which also included a 3-point goal from Emily Cline and a bucket from inside by Katie Osborn off a feed from Sarah Rhodes.
However, the tide swung back Hale’s way in the opening five minutes of the third quarter thanks to a 16-6 burst.
Johnson hit a short jumper at 2:15 for the Lady Wardogs, but the Tulsans held an 8-2 edge the rest of the way to create a 52-31 margin.
Each team scored 18 points in the final stanza.
Johnson and Neal scored 15 points each to head up the Miami scoring.
Hale had three players break into double figures, topped by senior guard Alix Perkins, who had 29 points. Gabrielle Tucker added 18 and Nyela Peoples chipped in with 10.
