The Oklahoma Secondary School Activity Association changed its guidelines for COVID-related cancellations in all sports during an emergency meeting Friday.
In the past, teams who couldn't play their scheduled district game would be forced to forfeit unless its entire school district was shut down.
The new verbiage says that if a team is forced to miss a district game because of the virus and is still holding classes, virtually or in person, the contest would be considered a “nongame” and no marginal points would be won or lost.
Should a district game be cancelled, criteria to determine playoff seeding would include: total number of district wins. (The number of wins only in district play, not a won/loss percentage), head to head results, average number of marginal points in district play, and finally, lot.
Like at the end of the season when multiple teams are trying to calculate what it will take to get them into the playoffs, there will be a similar situation for games affected by COVID-19.
The OSSAA said schools have until Saturday, Nov. 8 to make up games and they can be played on any day of the week with the exception of Wednesday and Sunday.
