WOODWARD — Connors State College avenged an earlier loss and forced Northeastern Oklahoma A&M into an “if” game to decide the Region 2 Division 1 baseball championship.

The Golden Norse, who had shoved Connors into the losers’ bracket with a 6-4 decision Friday evening, dropped a 14-12 decision to the Cowboys Sunday evening.

The deciding game was played Monday afternoon.

NEO used a 10-4 win against Rose State in the first round and a 9-8 upset of No.1 seed to reach the championship round.

Connors, which had opened with an 8-4 victory over Eastern State in the opening round, remained alive with a 4-3 win over Eastern and a wild 21-15 romp against Seminole.

Connors 14, NEO 12

Connors went up 12-7 in the fifth, but the Norse scored four runs in the top of the seventh to cut the margin to 12-11.

Two runs in the bottom of the seventh wound up providing the final margin.

In addition to the 26 runs, the teams combined for 33 hits, including 17 by CSC.

The 16-hit Norse attack included back-to-back home runs by Hayden Hutchens and Braeden Hinton.

Hinton also had a double.

Tyler Small went 4-for-5 with a double, three singles and four RBIs.

Tyler Silva singled three times while Eduardo Savoie contributed two doubles.

Jacob Ervin finished with two singles and Ryan Kula and Erasmo Mavarez added singles.

David Mendham had a homer and two singles and Chris Mondesi had a double and two singles for the Trojans.

In addition to the wins by NEO and Connors, Seminole routed Arkansas Baptist 12-2 on Thursday.

Eastern bounced back to claim a 12-3 win against ABC, which finished the season 0-52.

NEO 9, Seminole 8

A solo homer by Ervin, his second of the game, wound up providing the winning margin as Seminole used a grand slam by Joseph Craig to narrow the gap to one run.

The Trojans left the tying run at first after Savoie retired the final two batters he faced.

Ervin also had a two-run homer in the first.

Small led off the game with a home run. He also collected two singles.

Marion had a triple and single and Savoie added two singles.

NEO 6, Connors 4

The Norse overcame a 4-2 deficit with a pair of two run rallies in the seventh and ninth innings.

Three players had two hits each for NEO: Marion with two doubles and Savoie and Hutchens with two singles each.

Hinton delivered a solo homer in the sixth and Small, Hector Candelaria and Mavarez had a base hit each.

NEO 10, Rose State 4

A seventh-run sixth inning got the Norse gave them a 9-0 lead and they coasted from there.

Small finished with three singles and a double.

Others with hits for NEO were Silva, three singles; Marion and Hutchens, a double and single each; Kula a double, and Savoie, Hinton and Mavarez a single each.
