COLCORD — A third-quarter touchdown run helped Colcord pick up a 14-7 win over Fairland in A-6 football play here Thursday, Oct. 18.

The Owls’ only touchdown came on an 18-yard run by Jamal Morris in the first quarter. Thatcher Smalley added the extra point, giving Fairland a 7-0 lead.

The Hornets got to within a point on a 45-yard pass play and the ensuing conversion, then took the lead in the fourth quarter on a 22-yard run.

The Owls had three good scoring opportunities and two of those were, Marshall said, and those were blunted by interceptions.

“It was fourth-and-4 inside the 20 and we picked up 3½ to kill a drive,” he said. “They should have never scored on us. It was just one of those nights.”

Morris was Fairland’s leading rusher with 84 yards on 17 carries.

Michael Foust added 17 yards, Luke Jones, 12; Cole Cawlfield, 6, and Charles Reed, 4.

Quarterback Braxton Jones went 5-of-11 for 119 yards.

Thatcher Smalley had four of the catches for 87 yards and Luke Jones had one reception for 30 yards.

Colcord had 256 yards in total offense, 149 rushing and 107 passing.

“I can’t emphasize enough about how hard our kids went out and battled,” Marshall said.

The Owls wrap up the regular season with Quapaw and Oklahoma Union.

“If we win out, we go to the playoffs,” Marshall said.

Oklahoma Union is fourth at 2-2 and the Owls and Quapaw are tied for fifth at 2-3.

The Cougars are at Colcord Friday, Oct. 26, then wraps up the regular season at home with Fairland.

Quapaw has a game at Fairland Friday and at home with Commerce on Nov. 2 on its schedule.
