MIAMI — The NEO Wesley (Foundation) Student Center’s fundraising golf tournament will be held Monday, Oct. 15 at Peoria Ridge Golf Course.
The inaugural tournament, held last October, is the largest fundraiser for the Wesley NEO student ministry to date.
“We are so very appreciative of the support shown to us for the continuation of the ministry to the NEO campus,” director Donni Long said in a statement. “The support of our sponsors and the dedication of our board and students is what made this event such a success. On behalf of the ministry, we express our sincere appreciation to everyone who participated and anticipate this year’s being even more successful.”
The yearly event is planned to honor Dr. Ron Gilbert and to support one of his favorite ministry opportunities.
Gilbert was the last surviving board member of the Wesley Foundation, which serves NEO A&M College campus.
He served both on and off the board all those years until his death in September 2017.
He told the story more than once of his devotion to campus ministry because he met his wonderful wife, Ann at the “Methodist Student Union” in 1965 at the University of Tennessee in Memphis, where Ron was in dental school and Ann in nursing school. The board hopes this will be a fitting tribute to his legacy.
The entry fee is $75 per player or $300 for a foursome. Individual entries will be placed on a team.
It will be a scramble and mulligans will be available for purchase at check-in.
Early arrivals will have time for check-in and pastries and coffee. The entry fee will include green fees, cart, a simple breakfast, snacks and bottled water during play, as well as a burger bar lunch after golf.
There are four levels of sponsorships available. The platinum level is $1,000 and includes the fees for team of four. The Gold sponsorship is $500; Silver, $250, and Bronze, $100.
The fee includes a professional sign by Allen Sign Company on a tee box or by the clubhouse, acknowledgement in the tournament bulletin, at the awards ceremony, press release post tournament and in the Wesley Newsletter.
