ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. — Northeastern Oklahoma A&M split its four games in a volleyball tournament hosted by Cowley Community College that included three nationally ranked programs.
The Division II No. 11 Lady Norse suffered a 3-2 loss to DII No. 14 Iowa Central then blanked DII No. 21 Carl Sandberg 3-0 in matches on Friday.
Then on Saturday, NEO (18-9) topped DI Barton Community College 3-1 but dropped a 3-0 decision to Division I No. 6 Cowley in matches on Saturday.
“The two losses were very competitive matches against really good programs,” NEO coach Eric Iverson said. “That was a great win against a international-type roster D1 team in Barton.”
Scores of the four weekend matches included (with NEO scores listed first):
Iowa Central 3, No. 11 NEO 2 (19-25, 26-28, 25-18, 25-23, 8-15)
NEO 3, Carl Sandberg 0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-13)
NEO 3, Barton 1 (25-14, 25-21, 21-25, 25-14)
Cowley 3, NEO 0 (16-25, 31-29, 19-25)
This was the second straight tournament the Lady Norse played in that had a loaded field.
They went 4-0 in the Kansas City Community College tournament.
“Our entire schedule has to be considered one of the tougher in the country and we have been really competitive overall all year,” Iverson said. “There is always going to be one or two you shrug your shoulders at.
“It seems we have been better on the road, which is good because the home portion of the schedule now has no playoff implications.”
The Lady Norse are 2-2 in matches away from home and 12-7 in those played on neutral sites.
They are 4-0 in matches at the Glen Wolfe Student Activity Center.
The Lady Norse hosted Labette (Kansas) Community College on Monday, Oct. 1 then travel to Ottawa, Kansas on Oct. 8 to play the Ottawa University JV.
