AFTON — Deleon Johnson’s only pass of the night went for an 8-yard touchdown in overtime as Tulsa Webster nipped Afton 14-8 here Friday, Sept. 7.

Brett Fuser had given the Eagles the lead in the fourth quarter with a 1-yard run and the ensuing conversion, capping a six-play drive that came on Afton’s seventh offensive series.

Johnson scored on a 1-yard run for the Warriors. The Warriors were successful with the conversion, creating an 8-8 tie with 2:45 remaining in regulation.

Afton didn’t score on its overtime possession.

Amos lost 3 on the first play, Fuser threw incomplete to Cole Mikesell in the end zone, and then Amos got the 3 back to get to the original line of scrimmage.

Fuser was unable to connect with Mikesell in the end zone on fourth down.

Fuser broke up a pass from Johnson to Trevor Taylor on the Warriors’ first overtime play.

Johnson picked up 2 yards and went to Clayton Smith for the game-winning touchdown.

Webster had a scoring chance in regulation, but had a 28-yard field goal attempt blocked with 49 seconds left in the first half.

The Eagles turned the ball over five times on downs and had two other drives halted by interceptions.

Afton finished with 230 yards in total offense, with 150 of that coming on the ground.

Amos had 18 carries for 86 yards and Fuser had 46 yards and a TD on 15 attempts.

Fuser completed 9 of 25 passes for 111 yards. He had two interceptions.

Mikesell had six receptions for 87 yards. Amos caught two balls for 17 yards and Patrick Hallacy netted 7 yards on his only catch.


Afton (0-2) hosts Salina in its final non-district game on Friday, Sept. 14.
