SHIDLER — Welch suffered back-to-back losses and were eliminated from its Class B baseball district tournament here Thursday, April 19.
The Wildcats opened with a 10-0 loss to Shidler, then were eliminated with a 17-5 setback against Bluejacket.
The Chieftains and Shidler played Friday afternoon in the district final.
Shidler rolled to a 15-2 win over the Chieftains earlier Thursday.
Shidler 10, Welch 0
Shidler was up only 2-0 heading into the fifth inning, when the 20th ranked Tigers erupted for eight runs.
Welch managed only one hit in the game, a leadoff single by Seth Hayward in the fourth.
The Wildcats only had two other baserunners in the game.
Keyton Stogsdill walked in the third and Brady Chenoweth in the fifth.
Winning pitcher Tyler Kuykendall worked all five innings, striking out eight and walking two.
Trent Kuykendall had a double and single and D.I. Carl added two singles for Shidler (22-6).
Jeremy Calligan tripled and Tyler Kuykendall and Logan Smith added singles.
Bluejacket 17, Welch 5
The Chieftains exploded for 12 runs in the fifth inning, sending 16 batters to the plate.
Seven of the runs were the result of errors, but Gabe Satterwhite had two RBI hits in the inning and Charles Speigel drove in runs with a groundout and a single.
The game had been close up to then.
Each team scored three times in the first, then the score was tied at 5-5 heading into the top of the fifth.
The Chieftains got a triple and single from Keegan Francis and Satterwhite added a double and single.
Johnathan Estes, Justin Pape and Speigel all had a single.
Gunner Johnson doubled and Jake Peterson and Dalton Duede had singles for the Wildcats’ only hits.
