WELCH — An 11-run first inning helped Commerce breeze to a football-sounding 21-7 win over Welch here Monday, April 16.

The 11 runs were the most in an inning this season and the 21 was their second-best output.

CHS scored 25 runs against Quapaw on March 16.

The Tigers sent 15 batters to the plate in the first.

Caleb Pittman, Lance Hyatt and Caden Picard had two-run singles and Brandon Kelley delivered an RBI single.

Commerce also got two runs on errors, one on a wild pitch and Dylan Cunningham pushed a run across on a catcher’s interference call with the bases loaded.

The Tigers followed up on their big first by scoring five runs in the second, one in the third and four in the fourth.

Welch scored two in the first, three in the second and the Cats tacked on single runs in the third and fourth innings.

Hyatt, Picard and Kelley had two hits each for CHS with Hyatt and Picard each having a double

Brandt Nading chipped in with a single.

Welch picked up a double and single from Jake Peterson and Seth Hayward, Daniel Windle and Nate Beaty added singles.

Hunter Burkybile and Hyatt each worked two innings for the Tigers.

Burkybile allowed five runs and four. He struck out four and walked five.

Hyatt yielded two runs and a hit with three strikeouts and four walks.


Welch heads into the post season Thursday, April 19 when it travels to Shidler for Class A District 20 play.

Commerce travels to Chelsea Thursday, April 19 for a tri with Porter. The Tigers then visits Quapaw on Friday, April 20.
