RAMONA — A six-run third inning sent Hominy on its way to a 10-7 win over Welch here Saturday, March 17 in the Caney Valley Tournament.

The Wildcats went 0-3 in the tournament, falling 13-2 to Caney Valley and 6-5 to Woodland.

Hominy 10, Welch 7

The Wildcats had taken a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the first on a passed ball, a wild pitch and two errors.

Hominy scored six times in the top of the third.

Welch got two of the runs back in its half of the third on a two-run single by Daniel Windle, but the Bucks created the final margin in the fourth inning.

Gunner Johnson was the Wildcats’ offensive leader with two singles.

Brady Chenoweth, Jake Peterson, Windle and Nate Beaty each had a single.

Brady Chenoweth worked the first three innings and Eli Gilman finished up.

Woodland 6, Welch 5

A two-out line drive single to left by Ethan Fesler drove in the winning run for the Cougars in the bottom of the fifth.

Welch got a run in the top of the first then scored four times with two out in the second on an error, a bases loaded walk to Peterson and a two-run single by Seth Hayward.

Woodland got on the board with a run in its half of the second then scored twice in the third and fourth innings to tie the game.

Hayward had a double and single and Josh Baker contributed two singles for Welch.

Johnson, Dalton Duede, Beaty and Colton Armstrong each had a single.

Caney Valley 13, Welch 2

The Trojans jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back.

After Welch got both of its runs in the top of the second, the hosts scored six times in its half of the second.

Caney Valley generated two more runs in the third.

Welch managed only two hits in the game: a double by Baker and a single from Hayward.


The Cats played Wyandotte Monday, March 19 then hosts Colcord on Tuesday, March 20.
