KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Former Northeastern Oklahoma A&M Melinda Murillo and Jesheon Cooper Monday became the first two-time All-MIAA winners since the University of Central Oklahoma joined the league in 2012.

Murillo was named First Team All-MIAA and Cooper, Third Team All-MIAA, the league announced Monday. UCO junior Blake Blessington also earned honorable mention honors. And Jo'Nah Johnson was named MIAA Co-Freshman of the Year.

"I'm happy for all of these girls," UCO head coach Guy Hardaker said. "Melinda and Jesheon have done so well since they got here. In practice, in the games, off the court, they show up every day with a smile on their faces and are so great for this program.

"With Blake, she works so hard and she does it every day," Hardaker continued. "I'm happy for her to be recognized for that. Jo'Nah, well we all knew she was great in high school. But there is an adjustment to be made in college. We don't play any easy games here. She has done really well figuring that out and adapting."

Murillo, who became the first Broncho to earn First Team All-MIAA honors last season, leads the Bronchos this season scoring 16.4 points per game.

She leads UCO in minutes played (31.1 per game), made field goals (155), made 3-pointers (52), made free-throws (98), assists (102), and steals (46).

Murillo has scored 460 points this season, the 10th-most in school history for one season. She scored 475 last season. Her 935 career points ranks 18th all-time at Central.

Murillo was Region II Player of the Year and second-team All-American at NEO, helping the Lady Norse reach the NJCAA national tournament.

She averaged 12.6 points, 3.1 assists and 1.9 steals per game.

Murillo averaged 13 points per game as a freshman with the Lady Norse.

UCO opened play in the MIAA Tournament Thursday in Kansas City, Missouri.

The Bronchos are the fourth-seed in the tournament and received a first-round bye.

UCO played Missouri Western Thursday night in Municipal Auditorium.

Missouri Western advanced with a 60-57 win over Nebraska-Kearney Monday night.
