FAIRLAND — Fairland wrapped up the home portion of its schedule here Friday, Feb. 9, with a sweep of games from Afton.

The Lady Owls claimed a 52-44 victory before the FHS boys rolled 57-37.

Afton saw a 15-13 first quarter lead turn into a 26-24 halftime deficit.

The Lady Owls (9-12) held an 18-10 advantage in the third only to have Afton trim the score to the final margin in the fourth.

Three players reached double figures for Fairland: Kyndall Davis, 17; Nikki Dingle, 16, and Ciara Allen, 12.

Jessica Roberts tallied five and Cayden Harper scored two for the Lady Owls.

Carlee Shinn and Skyler Hicks scored 13 and 11, respectively, for Afton.

The Lady Eagles (6-11) also picked up seven from Clarissa Rice, five each from Quetta Woodall and Layne Hudson and three from Ashley Turley.

Boys: Fairland 57, Afton 37

A 36-15 scoring margin in the middle two quarters lifted the Owls.

Afton led 15-8 after one, but the Owls held 20-10 and 16-5 margins in the second and third quarters.

Fairland (8-12) put the wraps on things by outscoring the Eagles 13-7 in the final stanza.

The Fairland scoring included 17 from Isaac Matthews, 11 from James Morris, 10 from Caden Elliott, nine from Thatcher Smalley, five from Trey Martin, three from Jose Garcia and two from Brian Padberg.

Briar Julian’s 11 points topped the scoring for Afton (3-10).

Cole Mikesell chipped in with eight each while Brett Fuser added four.

Bailey Forgey, Gavin Herman and Zach Henry added two each.


Fairland wraps up the regular season at Wyandotte Monday, Feb. 12, then begins district play on Friday, Feb. 16.

Afton finishes at Commerce Monday, Feb. 12. It travels to Chouteau for its district.
