COMMERCE — Quapaw picked up a pair of wins over Commerce here Friday, Feb. 2.

The Lady Wildcats rolled 45-25 before the QHS boys squeezed out a 50-47 decision.

Girls: Quapaw 45, Commerce 25

The Lady Wildcats grabbed a 12-5 lead in the opening frame and continued to pull away.

They were ahead 26-10 at intermission then outscored Commerce 10-7 and 9-8 over the next two quarters.

Skyler Evans and Mya Nichols were the leading scorers for Quapaw with 17 and 10 points, respectively.

The Lady Wildcats, 10-10 and the winner of six of their last seven games, also got points from Lu Attocknie with seven, Jenni Jennings with five, Chloe Tyner with four and Shea Ottesen with two.

River Friel was the Lady Tigers’ top scorer with 10 points.

Morgan Connell and Ashley Myers had four each,

Jaycie Rhinehart and Dawn Convirs, three each, and Miriam Nino one for Commerce (3-14).

Boys: Quapaw 50, Commerce 47

The Wildcats used a 22-12 burst in the fourth quarter to get away with the win.

Commerce stretched a 9-7 first-quarter lead into a 21-11 halftime advantage.

Quapaw (8-11) inched closer with a 17-14 margin in the third period.

Three players scored in double figures for the Cats: Kale Thomasson tallied 14 and Jonas Gregory and Matt Lovell had 10 each.

Chris Durbin had nine, followed by Caleb Hoffman with three and Kai Anderson and Jordan Carolus, two each.

Hunter Burkybile’s 19 points led the way offensively for the Tigers (11-6).

Danny Salinas added 14 followed by Lupe Prado with seven, Hayden Moss with four and Ryan Dunbar with three.


Commerce is at Welch Monday, Feb. 5, closes out the home schedule with Wyandotte on Tuesday, Feb. 6, then wraps up the regular season Friday, Feb. 9 at Quapaw.

Quapaw travels to Ketchum Tuesday then hosts Commerce Friday.
