COMMERCE — A 9-3 edge in overtime helped Commerce squeeze by Foyil 44-38 here Tuesday, Jan. 30.

Foyil had carried a 27-26 lead into the fourth quarter, when the Tigers used a 9-8 edge to force the overtime.

Hayden Moss had two field goals and Danny Salinas drained a trey in the extra period to lift Commerce.

The Tigers held a 6-5 lead after one, but Foyil erupted for 21 points in the second quarter to open up a 26-14 halftime lead.

The Panthers got only one point in the third as CHS took the one-point lead going into the fourth period.

Salinas finished with a game-high 17 points.

He was joined in double figures by Moss, who had 11, and Lupe Prado, who chipped in with 10.

The Tigers also got four points from Hunter Burkybile and two from Gabe Gray.

Jordin Fortin scored 15 for Foyil.

Girls: Commerce 24, Foyil 23

The Lady Tigers outscored Foyil 11-8 in the fourth quarter to escape with the win.

Foyil saw a 7-4 first-quarter lead turn into an 11-9 halftime deficit.

The Lady Panthers regained the lead with a 6-2 edge in the third frame.

Morgan Connell scored six points to lead Commerce (3-13),

Sunny Crawford and Ashley Myers added four and two, respectively.

Allison Bland was Foyil’s leader with five points.


Commerce hosts Quapaw Friday, Feb. 2, and travel to Welch on Monday, Feb. 5.
