MIAMI — A pair of first-half scoring bursts help Verdigris pull away during a 64-31 victory over the Miami girls Tuesday, Jan. 23 at the MAC.

The Lady Wardogs had led 5-2 through the opening minutes only to have Verdigris go on a 10-0 run.

Miami got back-to-back buckets from Mary Gilbert to narrow the gap to 15-9 with 5:12 left in the half.

The Lady Cardinals then used a 12-0 scoring streak to make it 27-9.

A 3-point goal by Bayleigh Beckwith at the 24.3-second mark trimmed the gap to 15 at the break.

Verdigris (11-5) exploded for 29 points in the third quarter to break the game open.

Callie Battenfield got 14 of her game-high 22 points in the fourth quarter. She had a pair of treys and three two-point goals.

Kylee McGuire, who netted 12, joined her in double figures.

Beckwith was Miami’s leader with 12 points.

Others who scored for the Lady Wardogs were Gilbert with eight, Shelby Hubbard and Malarie Thompson, four each; Abby Osborn, two, and Rebecca Bell, one.


Miami travels to Locust Grove on Friday, Jan. 26, and hosts Catoosa Tuesday, Jan. 30.
