MIAMI — The eighth annual Miami RBI Snowball Classic will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27 in the Calcagno Family Ballroom in Northeastern Oklahoma A&M’s Carter Student Union.
The evening will include live and silent auctions, a reception and full dinner.
The featured guest speaker will be New York Yankees player and manager Bucky Dent.
Miami RBI, a grass roots organization dedicated to raising funds to renovate Miami’s baseball and softball fields, hosts the event.
Guests will be able to get a free photo taken with Dent, purchase autographed balls or bats and bid on unique sports memorabilia and other items.
The Miami High School baseball and softball teams will serve dinner.
Dent earned two World Series rings as the starting shortstop for the Yankees in 1977 and 1978. He was voted the World Series MVP in 1978 and is most famous for his home run in a tiebreaker game against the Boston Red Sox at the end of the 1978 season.
Dent stayed active with the game after retiring by becoming a manager in the Yankee’s minor league system.
He served the Yankees as manager for portions of two seasons, 1989 and 1990.
From 1991 to 1994, Dent was on the coaching staff of the St. Louis Cardinals under manager Joe Torre.
He then moved to the coaching staff of the Texas Rangers from 1995 to 2001 and then in 2002, he managed the Omaha Royals, the Triple A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals.
Dent also was bench coach for the Cincinnati Reds from 2005 to 2007.
