QUAPAW — Wyandotte added to wins streaks Friday, Jan. 12, against Quapaw.

The Lady Bears picked up their ninth straight win thanks to a 48-28 decision.

The WHS boys ran their streak to eight by claiming a 61-39 verdict.

Girls: Wyandotte 48, Quapaw 28

The Lady Bears (9-2) set the tone early by jumping out to a 10-0 first-quarter lead. They were up 19-4 at the break.

Quapaw held a 12-9 edge in the third quarter but the Lady Bears closed things out with a 16-12 run in the fourth.

Tarrah Stephens had 17 points and Aranda Nair contributed 11 for Wyandotte.

Other Lady Bears scoring were Makinzi Powell, eight; Jillian Swonger and Haley Hart, five each, and Kylee Severs, two.

Quapaw (4-9) received eight points from Lu Attocknie, six from Skyler Evans, four from Ashlynn Owens, and two each from Karissa Anderson, Mya Nichols, Shea Ottesen, Kelci Schoeder and Chloe Tyner.

Boys: Wyandotte 61, Quapaw 39

An18-8 burst in the second quarter helped send the 2A No. 18 Bears on their way to their 10th win of the season.

It was 28-15 at the half, then each team scored 13 in the third period.

Wyandotte erupted for 20 points in the final stanza.

Jacob Burney scored 22 and Ryan Cooper chipped in with 19 for WHS.

Trey Jones had eight points, followed by Jordon Burney with five, Brendan Cooper, three, and Cody Teal and Justin Campbell, two each

Chris Durbin and Matt Lovell combined for 30 of the 39 points for Quapaw (3-9).

Durbin had 20, Lovell 10, Caleb Hoffman, three, and Drayven Blunk and Jordan Carolus, two each.


Quapaw travels to Bluejacket on Tuesday, Jan. 16 while Wyandotte hosts Ketchum Tuesday.

Both begin play in the NEO Tournament Thursday, Jan. 18.

Both Wyandotte and Quapaw are in the Boys Blue bracket, Quapaw facing Nowata at noon while Wyandotte plays

Cave Springs at 9 p.m. Both will be at the Miami Activity Center.

Wyandotte’s girls face Chetopa, Kansas, at 10:30 a.m. at the Glen Wolfe Student Activity Center.

The Lady Wildcats have been paired against Watts in a 1:30 p.m. Girls Norse game at the MAC.
