WELCH — The Welch boys held off Foyil to claim a 44-43 Lucky 7 Conference basketball victory here Monday, Dec. 18.
Welch also breezed to a 65-41 win in the girls’ game.
The Panthers had created a 30-30 tie heading into the final stanza with a 12-11 edge.
Braxton Turner drained a pair of 3-point goals and had a field goal for Welch over the final eight minutes.
The Wildcats had led 13-6 after one, but Foyil pulled to within a point by the half, 19-18.
Turner finished with 21 points for Welch (3-5). He connected on five treys over the course of the game.
Gunner Johnson had eight points, all in the second half.
Others scoring for the Cats were Colton Armstrong with seven and Nate Beaty and Trenton Seigel tallied four each.
Jordin Fortin was the leader for Foyil (3-6) with 14 points.
Girls: Welch 65, Foyil 41
The Lady Wildcats (7-1) took charge with a 28-point second quarter explosion.
Aspen Wood scored eight of her 11 points during the second frame. Olivia Chenoweth had seven and Halle Rupert six as Welch opened up a 41-29 halftime advantage.
The visitors held a 9-8 edge in the third quarter, but Welch put the game away in the fourth with an 18-12 margin.
Chenoweth finished with a game-high 18 points and Rupert added 12.
Others scoring for the Lady Cats were Jaeli Jorgenson with eight; Hailey Haskell, six; Maddie Schaper, five, and Sayler Hayward and Jayci Atwood, two each.
Foyil (4-5) picked up 10 points from Kassidy West.
