MIAMI — Unable to overcome 30 points yielded by forfeits, Miami dropped a 42-36 decision to Columbus in the nightcap of a high school wrestling double dual here Tuesday, Dec. 5.
The Wardogs won five of the eight matches that were wrestled, but forfeits at 113, 120, 145, 182 and 220 were too much to overcome.
Miami also suffered a 63-15 loss to Carthage, Missouri, in the night’s first dual.
Carthage also rolled to a 60-18 win over Columbus.
Jay Porter and Jayden Marshall went 2-0 on the night.
Porter won both of his 160-pound matches by fall.
He pinned Brandon Crow of Carthage at 5:49, then took out Osmosis Jones of Columbus at 1:06.
Marshall squeezed out a 1-0 decision over Brener Ocala of Carthage then pinned the Titans’ Nate Moyer at 1:05.
Miami’s only other points against Carthage came at 195, where Dalton Hardin pinned Ian Ketchum at 3:19.
Picking up points for the Dogs against Columbus were 126-pounder Jordan Freeman, who pinned Sylas Stone at 3:55, and 152-pounder William Reeves, who pinned Allan Jones at 0:36.
Columbus’ other on-mat points came at 138, where Tanner Hodges pinned Payton Rider at 0:36; 170, when Zach Porter pinned Keedin Crockett at 0:43, and 195, where Ridge Smith pinned Hardin at 0:38.
Carthage had five pins (106, 132, 128, 152 and 170), a decision (126) and five forfeits (113, 120, 145, 182 and 220) in its win against the Wardogs.
Miami travels to Jay for a dual on Thursday, Dec. 7.
