Richard R. “Rick” Bluejacket of Bluejacket, Okla., surrounded by his family, quietly passed away Sunday morning, Jan. 13, 2008, after a long illness at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, Okla. He was 56 years old.

Rick was born in Denver, Colo., to Joseph D. and Elizabeth “Betty” Swift Bluejacket on May 29, 1951. Rick grew up and attended school in Denver. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Denver in 1970.

Shortly after graduation, Rick proudly served his country by joining the United States Army. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and after earning the rank of Spec. 4, he received an Honorable Discharge in 1973. He went on to earn a degree in mechanics from the Red Rocks Community College in Colorado.

Rick and Ellen raised their children in Denver where Rick was very active in youth sports. He lovingly and proudly coached his son in baseball, football and basketball. He also umpired youth baseball and girls high school softball with his brother, Jody.

In 1994, Rick and his family made their home in Bluejacket, Okla.

On July 19, 1974, he married the love of his life, Ellen Meehan in Denver, Colo.

Rick was employed as a Safety Officer at the Oklahoma Forensic Center in Vinita, Okla., for several years until ill health forced his retirement in December of 2006.

Rich had a great love for life and lived it to the fullest. His greatest enjoyment came from being with his family. He was a loving husband, son, parent and grandparent. After retirement, Rick continued to stay active with his family. He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed watching his favorite team, the Denver Broncos.

Rick was preceded in death by one greatnephew, Shawn Satterwhite on March 5, 2000; one brother, Joseph “Jody” Bluejacket Jr. on March 15, 2002, and his father, Joseph D. Bluejacket on Sept. 5, 2006.

Rick is lovingly survived by his wife, Ellen, of the home; his mother, Betty, of Bluejacket, Okla.; one son, Ben Bluejacket and his wife, Heather, of Wichita, Kan.; one daughter, Jamie North and husband, Chuck, of Bluejacket, Okla.; one brother, Father David Bluejacket of Arvada, Colo.; two sisters, Ginni Satterwhite and husband, Leroy, and Mary Bluejacket, all of Bluejacket, Okla.; four grandchildren, Terrell Bluejacket and Dani and Kade North, all of Bluejacket, Okla., and Jason Bluejacket of Wichita, Kan.; one niece, Dustie Rogers and family; one nephew, Rusty Satterwhite and family, many other relatives and a host of friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday, Jan. 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Thomas Chapel in Welch, Okla.

Services for Rick will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Miami, Okla. Services will be conducted by Rick's brother, Father David Bluejacket.

Serving as pallbearers will be Leroy Satterwhite, Bruce Bluejacket, Brad Bluejacket, Mark Holmes, John Rogers, Mike Lins, Chris Hicks and Tony Allensworth.

Interment will be in the Bluejacket Cemetery, east of Bluejacket, Okla. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post No. 147 Veterans' Funeral Detail.

The services are under the direction of Jim Thomas of the Thomas Funeral Home of Welch, Okla.
