Wanda Hurtt died Nov. 24, 2006, in Springfield, Ore., of congestive heart failure and cancer. She was 85.

Hurtt was born March 25, 1921, in Ottawa County to William and Nellie (Wiles) Cantwell. She attended No. 4 grade school and graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1940.

She was an office and administrative worker at the Pentagon during World War II and later at the National Council of Churches. She was also a math teacher's aide.

She married Alvin Hurtt on Oct. 27, 1945, in Springfield, Mo. He survives.

Additional survivors include one daughter, Maryann Hurtt of Elkhart Lake, Wis.; one son, James R. Hurtt of Springfield, Ore.; three sisters, Betty Brown of Battle Ground, Wash., Dean Matile of Canley, Ore., and Joyce Wooten of Portland, Ore.; one brother, Charles Cantwell of Roseburg, Ore., and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, James W. Hurtt, and two brothers, William Cantwell Jr. and Richard Cantwell.

Memorial services were held Dec. 1 at McKenzie Valley Presbyterian Church in Walterville, Ore. Burial was in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.

Arrangements were under the direction of Buell Funeral Home in Springfield, Ore.
