Bettie J. Atkinson of rural Columbus, Kan., died Friday, Jan. 19, 2007, at Saint Johns Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo., after an illness.
She was 82.
Atkinson was born Aug. 16, 1924, in rural Columbus to Floyd and Mattie (King) Crane.
She was a member of the Neutral Church in Neutral, Kan., a leader of Spring Valley 4-H Club for 14 years, a lifetime member of the Columbus Saddle Club and Cherokee County Livestock Improvement Association and the American Brahma Breeders Club.
She married Marion E. Atkinson on July 21, 1940, in Joplin. He survives, of the home.
Additional survivors include three sons, Marion Wayne of Columbus and Rick Edward and Keith Eugene, both of rural Baxter Springs, Kan.; five daughters, Beverly Jean Capron of Tulsa, Carolyn Ann Ranta of Kalamazoo, Mich., Shirley Dian Pate of Lewis Port, Ky., Marilyn Jane Rogers of Welch and Sherrie Lynn Nida of rural Columbus; one brother, Bob Crane of Carl Junction, Mo.; 18 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by three brothers Earl, Charles and Dean Crane, and one sister, Bonnie Larison.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Center Christian Church in rural Columbus with the Rev. Jerry Von Moss officiating. Burial will be in Park Cemetery in Columbus.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Simpson Funeral Home in Columbus.
Memorials are suggested to the Cherokee County 4-H Council and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
