Jess “Bud” Hartje died Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010, after 30 years of battling heart disease.

Mr. Hartje was born March 7, 1943, in Joplin, Mo. He attended Joplin Public Schools, graduated from Carl Junction High School in Missouri and attended Joplin Junior College. He lived in the Republic, Mo., area for 25 years.

He served as deacon and active participant in the music program, including the sanctuary choir and the Brookline Quartet, at Brookline First Baptist Church. He sold over-the-road trucks for Springfield Freightliner for the last 25 years. He was an amateur photographer.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, F. Jean (Larkin) Hartje; two sons and their wives, Jess “Bud” and Heather Hartje and Joshua B. and Tammy Hartje, all of Springfield, Mo.; three sisters, Lorena Hunter and Mary Ann Burrington, both of Joplin, Mo., and Linda Duncan of Branson, Mo., and three grandchildren, Elizabeth Hartje Burns and Savannah and Samuel Hartje, all of Springfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Loran and Viola Hartje, and one sister, Dolores Scuffum.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Meadors Funeral Home in Republic.
