Claudean “Dean” Viola Epperson of Miami died Tuesday, June 5, 2007, at her home after an illness. She was 84.

Mrs. Epperson was born April 27, 1923, in rural Ottawa County to Bert and Ethel (Rickner) King. She lived in Ottawa County all of her life.

She was employed as an enrollment clerk with the Ottawa Indian Tribe. She was a member of Southeast Baptist Church in Commerce.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Beryl Epperson; one daughter, Clandia McCumber; her parents; her stepmother, Manda King; five brothers, Joe, Clauda, Clyde, Gary and Jacob King, and one sister, Loletta “Honey” Frazee.

Survivors include one son, Beryl Eugene Epperson Jr. of Miami; two sisters, Rosa Lea Kleidon and Ann Avias; two brothers Larry King and Joe “Butch” King; six grandchildren, Aaron Epperson, Jennifer Hembree, Paige Tatterson, Gail McCumber, Steven McCumber and Brian McCumber, and several great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Southeast Baptist Church in Commerce with the Rev. Jerry VonMoss officiating. Burial will be in Ottawa Indian Cemetery, east of Miami.

Pallbearers will be Rick Megee, Mike Megee, Leonard Megee, Bert Kleidon, Jim Bro and Tim Bro.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Southeast Baptist Church in Commerce.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Paul Thomas Funeral Home of Miami.
