Patricia Ann Marquardt of Pittsburg, Kan., died Sunday, May 13, 2007, at Mount Carmel Regional Medical Center in Pittsburg after a long illness. She was 79.

Marquardt was born Aug. 25, 1927, in Pittsburg to Paul J. and Marguerite A. (Winkler) Marquardt. She attended Lakeside Elementary School, graduating from St. Mary's High School. She graduated from Kansas State Teachers' College, known today as Pittsburg State University (PSU), with a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in English. She later went back and graduated with a master's degree in library science. She also attended graduate school at the University of Texas in Austin.

She was teaching high school at the age of 19. She subsequently worked as a teacher at the junior college in Parsons, Kan., and later was an assistant professor at PSU. Most recently she worked as a library supervisor for the Miami Public School System for more than 15 years. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Pittsburg. She belonged to the Tuesday Morning Club and the Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority, both of Pittsburg. She was a Mount Carmel Pink Lady for more than 20 years.

Survivors include two brothers and their wives, Ronald and Susan Marquardt of Hattiesburg, Miss., and Paul Don and Sue Marquardt of Walton, Ky., two nephews and five nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Pittsburg with the Rev. Thomas Stroot as celebrant. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery in Pittsburg.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg. A Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the Pittsburg Public Library, SEK Humane Society or the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
