Dwane Barr of Chetopa, Kan., died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Mo. He was 66.

Mr. Barr was born April 5, 1941, in Craig County to Arthur and Nadine Elouse (Wiley) Barr. He graduated from Chetopa High School and continued his education at Parsons, Kan., Junior College for one year. 

He farmed and raised livestock most of his life and also fed cattle for many years. He was part owner of the Barr Lumber Company in Chetopa. His ultimate dream was realized when oil was discovered on his land.

 Survivors include his mother, of Chetopa; one sister and her husband, Janice and Joe Wright of Welch; one nephew and wife, Joe Bob and Elizabeth Wright of Miami, and two great-nephews, Bart Wright and Drew Wright.

He was preceded in death by his father; one nephew, Bart Wright, and one great-nephew, Nathan Wright.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church in Chetopa. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa.

Memorials are suggested to the Chetopa FFA in care of the funeral home.
