Wiley J. Sayers of Quapaw died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007, at Integris Baptist Regional Health Center in Miami. He was 64.

Sayers was born Aug. 24, 1942, to Luther H. and Thelma L. (Staton) Sayers in Miami. He had lived in the Quapaw and Picher areas for the past 30 years after moving from Albuquerque, N.M.

He served with the U.S. Army at the Bay of Pigs during the Vietnam War.

He was assistant manager with J.C. Penney in Albuquerque and he was also a self-employed truck driver.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Luther Sayers Jr.

Survivors include three sons, Wiley J. Sayers Jr. of Albuquerque, Nathan Jay Lee Sayers of Miami, and Keith Robert Sayers of Quapaw; three daughters, Carey Nicole Sayers of Miami, Holly Marie Sayers of Miami, and Heather Nicole Sayers of Miami; one sister, Sandra Lee Byrd of Bernice and eight grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 8, 2007, at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami. Interment will follow at the Peoria Cemetery east of Miami. The Rev. Roger Emerson will officiate.

Military rites will be conducted by the Missouri National Guard Military Honors Team.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
