Oscar Willard “Gene” Dixon of Vinita died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, at Craig General Hospital. He was 88.

Mr. Dixon was born Nov. 19, 1919, in Bluejacket to Clarence Edward and Clara Alberta (Kenndwalhy) Dixon. He attended school north of Bluejacket at what was known as the “Old Dixon Schoolhouse.” He attended one year at Vinita High School and graduated from Bluejacket in 1939. He later lived in Denver, Colo., for several years before returning to the Vinita area.

He was a veteran of the Army Air Corp where he served for six and a half years.

He worked for Pete and Charles Hough Creamery for eight years and retired from CL Supply after20 years. Gene accepted the Lord at the early age of nine and was baptized in an area creek. He was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church of Vinita and of the adult men's Bible class.

He married Dorothy Green on Sept. 3, 1948, in Vinita. She survives, of the home.

Additional survivors include seven sons and their wives, Ronnie Dixon, Jack Dixon, Roger Dixon, John and Tawannah Dixon, Greg and Becky Dixon, Rick and Sharon Dixon of Vinita and Curtis Dixon of Gulfport, Miss., 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Ethel Mae Trantham, Eva Marie Banks, Carol Ester Hudson and Lana Bell Dixon, and three brothers, Dempsey Dixon, Joseph Dixon and Jimmy Dixon.

Services were 11 a.m. today at Trinity Baptist Church. Pastor Ryan Goodrich officiated. Burial was in Pheasant Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Shawn Dixon, Erick Dixon, Severin Dixon, Dustin Dixon, Doug Dixon and William Dixon.
