James H. “Jim” Sheldon of Fairland died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007, at Claremore Veterans Center after an illness. He was 86.

He was born Jan. 2, 1921, at Grove, to William and Deborah (Sager) Sheldon. He moved to Fairland in 1980, coming from Miami.

He was a veteran of the Army.

He was a truck driver, having retired from Roadway in 1976. He was of the Methodist faith and a member of the Disabled American Veterans in Commerce.

He was preceded by his first wife, Betty. He was also preceded in death by one son, Cecil Bryant; one brother, Walter Sheldon, and three sisters, Mamie Gault, Arline Johnson, and Genivieve Lefler.

He married Ruth Hunt on Dec. 5, 1986, in Durant. She survives, of the home.

Additional survivors include two sons, Richard Sheldon and his wife Rhonda of Catoosa and Larry Bryant of the home; two daughters and their husbands, Madaline and Jerry Kropff of Monkey Island and Paula and John Garrett of Broken Arrow, 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Adcock Funeral Home in Fairland with the Rev. Jackie Crafton Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Fairland Cemetery.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the Claremore Veterans Center in care of the funeral home.
