Harold Abbott “Shifty” Hylton of Miami died Wednesday, July 4, 2007, at Integris Baptist Regional Health Center after an illness. He was 84.

Mr. Hylton was born July 13, 1922, in Elko, Nev., to Elmer and Musa (Gobin) Hylton. He moved to Miami with his family in the mid 1930s and graduated from Miami High School in 1939.

He was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corp.

For more 30 years, he was an insurance adjuster for General Adjustment Bureau in Miami. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Miami. He was past-president of the Pee Wee Baseball Association, Miami Little League, Miami Babe Ruth Association and Pop Warner Youth Football. He was a longtime member of Miami Park and Recreation Board. He was a 32nd degree Mason.

He married Wanda Lee Shapp on Aug. 31, 1946, at Columbus, Kan. She preceded him in death on April 18, 2002. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Robert Hylton.

Survivors include one daughter, Susan Daugherty and her husband John of Edmond; one son, Mike Hylton and his wife Susan of Tulsa; four grandchildren, Brian Daugherty and his wife Heather, and Eric Daugherty, all of Nevada, Mo., and Myka Hylton and Jack Hylton, both of Tulsa, and one great-granddaughter, Emma Daugherty of Nevada.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home in Miami with minister Jerad Joslin officiating. Burial will be in G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami.

Pallbearers will be Adam Conrad, David Conrad, Eric Daugherty, Mark Riley, Carl Schenk and Clarence Wright.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home in Miami.

Memorials are suggested to the donor's favorite youth sports program.
