Ora Jamie Blankenship of Miami died Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at Eastwood Manor in Commerce. She was 92.
Mrs. Blankenship was born Nov. 5, 1915, in Williford, Ark., to Marion Price and Nettie (Davis) McElfresh. She completed the nurse's aide program on June 6, 1969, and the ward clerk training program on Nov. 13, 1975. She received her high school equivalency degree on Oct. 22, 1980, at the age of 65. She moved to Miami in 1951.
She worked at Bradshaw Hospital, where she was known for “rocking the babies.” She also worked for Raleigh Hills and Integris Baptist Regional Health Care for several years before retiring. She had been an active member of the Church of Christ since 1951.
She married Austin Blankenship Sr. on Oct. 24, 1936, in Caldwell, Mo. He preceded her in death in November, 1969.
She was also preceded in death by infant twin son and daughter, Donald and Donna Blankenship; one son, Jerry Blankenship Sr.; her parents; one brother, Armol “Bud” McElfresh, and three sisters, Essie Kissee, Velma Wooley and Marie Mason.
Survivors include one son and his wife, Ernest Austin and Carolyn Blankenship Jr. of Fairland; two daughters, Shelby Way of Commerce and Joyce Bass and her husband Mike of Quapaw; one sister, Roberta Mason of Paragould, Ark.; eight grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandsons.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Church of Christ in Miami. Bobby Key will officiate and Nathan Adams will assist. Burial will be in G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Church of Christ in Miami.
