Minnie Mae Bowlin, a former area resident, died Friday morning, Dec. 28, 2006, at Mitchell Manor Nursing Center in McAlester, after a lengthy illness. She was 85.
She was born May 1, 1921, at Moundville, Ala., to Verdy and Mary (Terry) Phares. She worked as a nurse's aide, and retired from the Home of Hope in Vinita. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Vinita. She had moved to McAlester in 2002 from Ada, where she had lived since 1994, going there from Vinita.
She married Willard Bowlin at Lawton on April 3, 1943. He preceded her on June 29, 1989.
She is survived by a son and his wife, Hudy and Patricia Bowlin of Colorado Springs, Colo., a daughter and her husband, Charlotte and Jim Pruitt of Eufaula, OK, a brother, Wilson Phares of Tuscaloosa, Ala., two sisters, Fannie Bell Tingle of Birmingham, Ala., and Marie Norris of Gustoria, N.C., five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The service will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, at Adcock Funeral Home Chapel in Afton, with Rev. Carol Minter officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Adcock Funeral Home of Afton.
