Wayne David Morey of rural Quapaw died Friday, Jan. 5, 2007, at Freeman Health System West Hospital in Joplin, Mo., after an illness.

He was 74.

Morey was born June 13, 1932, in Picher to Frank and Ruth (Millard) Morey. He was a lifelong resident of the Quapaw and Picher area.

He was a dockworker for Yellow Freight Company for 21 years and also a farmer.

He was a member of Southeast Baptist Church of Commerce and of the Teamsters' Union.

He married Ina Downing on Sept. 18, 1948, in Columbus, Kan. She survives, of the home.

Additional survivors include one son, Wayne David Morey Jr. of Quapaw; four daughters, Carolyn Keeton of Quapaw, Teresa Morey of Pearsland, Texas, Sandra Williams of Bluejacket and Angela Shockley of Oak Grove, Mo.; five brothers, Dick Nowlin of Picher, Ronnie Nowlin of Riverton, Kan., Donnie Nowlin of Fairland, Harold Ray Nowlin of Webb City, Mo., and Billy Joe Nowlin of Baxter Springs, Kan.; three sisters, Ruby Rogers of Baxter Springs and Shirley Brown and Freda Lee Collings, both of Tulsa, 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami with the Rev. Jerry Von Moss officiating.

Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, northwest of Treece, Kan.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Bayliss, Bob King, Joe McKibbon, Sonny Greene, Don Dimwiddie and Jimm Shallenberger.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
